Gümüşlük is a small fishing village built on the ruins of the ancient city of Myndos, located at the westernmost tip of the Bodrum peninsula. Besides food: What to do in Gümüşlük?
The Sunken City and the King's Road
Extending from the coast to Rabbit Island, approximately 150 meters long and 1.5 meters wide An ancient stone path. Dating back to Myndos. Depending on the water level, you walk through water that’s between knee- and waist-deep; there’s no admission fee or ticket booth—you enter directly from the beach.
The rocks are slippery—water shoes are a must. Walking on the road is free, but access to the island itself is restricted; the island is a first-degree archaeological site. In September, the sun sets directly behind the island.
Ancient Stone Quarry and music festival
An ancient theater worth visiting in Gümüşlük none — often confused. The place where concerts are held Ancient Quarry, in Koyunbaba, on Fahrettin Altay Street. The stones that the Carian satrap Mausolus had transported to Halicarnassus in 355 BC were quarried here.
International Gümüşlük Music Festival held here every summer as well as on two other stages: “Suda” (on the beach) and “Kumda” (Festival Center). The 23rd edition in 2026 will take place between July 17 and September 6, featuring 18 concerts. The Quarry concerts begin at 21:00, while the other two stages start at 20:30. Gümüşlük Academy
An independent foundation established in 1996; situated on a pine-covered hillside overlooking Myndos Bay. It features a 400-square-meter workshop complex (painting, ceramics, sculpture, photography, literature), a 450-seat amphitheater, and a library with a collection of over 5,000 books. Advance reservations are required; children under 12 are not admitted.
Public beach
Çayıraltı Public Beach is on 1120th Street. Admission is free. There are free showers, restrooms, and changing rooms; two lifeguards are on duty during the summer season. The city does not provide lounge chairs, so you’ll need to bring your own towel.
Wednesday Market
The Gümüşlük market is held on Wednesday. The location is the corner of Turgutreis Street and 1147th Street, opposite Mandalin Evleri — the market moved here in 2021, guides mentioning the old location are outdated.
Vegetables, fruits, herbs, olives, olive oil, local textiles, handicrafts, jams, and village eggs are available, along with clothing, carpets, and pottery.
Arts and Crafts Bazaar
The exhibition spaces set up along the front street and in the alleyways running parallel to the beach—this is Gümüşlük’s shopping district. It opens in April and closes in mid-October. During the summer months, it opens around 10:30 a.m. and stays open until midnight.
The focus is on ceramics, glass, handwoven textiles, leather, wood, jewelry, sandals, and decorative objects. Most of the producers are either local artisans or artisans who have since settled in Gümüşlük.
